Limiting speeds for a bearing are generally expressed as a
rotation-per-minute (rpm) value. They indicate the point at which
the temperature generated internally within a mounted bearing
reaches the maximum limit for the bearing components (including
the lubricant).
Assuming standard characteristics such as sufficient lubrication
and perfect assembly conditions, general limiting speed values
are available for all RotoPrecision miniature and instrument
bearings offered. Achieving more specific values is difficult since
they are highly dependent upon the specific conditions of an
individual application. Factors including bearing diameter, ball
size, cage type, lubricant type (and quantity), operating
temperature and the amount of bearing play can all have
significant impact on limiting speed values.
