RotoPrecision Miniature and Instrument Bearings

Cages and Ball Retainers

The cage or ball retainer is used to separate the balls and to maintain uniform spacing. Two types of cages are standard in RotoPrecision miniature and instrument bearings: the metal crown type and the two-piece, loosely clinched ribbon type cage. The standard material for both cages is 400 series stainless steel. The crown type cage offers good wear and smooth running characteristics and can be offered in molded plastic in some cases.

The metal ribbon cage is the most common ball retainer in miniature and instrument bearings. The closed pocket design provides durable wear and the loose clinching is good for low starting torque. Various other cage options can be designed with the assistance of our Application Support staff.
